There was a Labrador tied up outside the supermarket on Friday. Because it was beside the door, just about everyone gave the dog a pat or a stroke as they entered or left. The dog enjoyed the attention but did not leave its vigil of staring into the shop waiting for its owner to reappear.
Why can’t more people show such affection and loyalty, and be prepared to share a little happiness?
Why is it when one starts a conversation with a stranger the assumption is you are the loony-on-the-bus rather than just wanting to share the experience of being alive?
I prefer dogs to people. Except fighting dogs, bred by people for their owner’s nasty entertainment, of course.

You are a lovely doggy, and here’s a big bowl of kibble with a bone for you to chew on.
