I suggest “R” look into the impacts on west African nations of oil companies and their private armies..

PInochet was a real prince among men, like Batista, Samoza, and a number of other “right-wing” dictators supported by Republican administrations for decades.

I wonder why Christianity and it’s antecedent countries and organizations have survived for 2000 years, or atleast for more than 200 years, whilst the anti-Christian and totalitarian regimes and their countries live in continual upheaval and destitution?

Yes, you guessed it. I’m saying without the proper foundation it doesn’t matter if you have somebody after your oil or not; you’re gonna go down.

Rosie, technically dictatorships have been around for as long as we’ve had organized society, democracy for only about 2500 at most (and representative democracy for less than a third of that period). I hope that doesn’t mean the idea of democracy and freedom is without proper foundation ;) .

They are; 4uk, all of them; the best form of government is true Theocracy where the citizenry fears God above doing harm to their neighbor. I specifically meant the commie-leftist governments of Africa with their turmoil, strife and destitutuion…the kind which the anti -Freedom, anti-Capitalism Dtroutma seems to prefer…And after all that, I kept it in the Easter “motif” of the Cartoon!

    Quite an accomplishment, I think!

Hmm, I find your definition of “commie-leftist” rather … well, suspect, as you use it regarding the African governments. It seems that “communism” is a generic word for “evil/bad/corrupt” nowadays…

But I’m glad you’re good at “abstraction” 4uk; makes my job easier :^)

Dude, nobody has a “job” here :) … Except the odd comic artist who actually follows our comments. I know the Small World writer follows the comments every now and then; Ted Rall used to but I have not seen a post of his for quite a while.

Greece had the only (short-lived) true democracy in history.

Penn–“the best form of government is true Theocracy where the citizenry fears God above doing harm to their neighbor.” Are you being tongue-in-cheek, or moving to Iran?? Maybe back to Taliban Afghanistan??

Never knew William Penn was a Muslim.

dtroutma! An excellent example of what I mentioned above. When someone mentions a true Theocracy where the constituents fear God; they immediately think of harsh overlords or flaming crackpots. I must confess though, that we do have a better example of probity in conduct and comportment; The Life and Times of Jesus Christ , the Risen Lord. But to get back to Government: As the Bible says; A man under authority is best able himself to be in authority. In the best of times, the Hebrews received all apropriate guidance from the Laws and revelations of God through his prophets, etc. They obeyed and lived out the will of God… More could be said… But, this is already over your head; isn’t it?
