It’s only Okay if you’re passing measures completely unpaid for that do nothing but balloon the deficit and benefit only the rich, vocal minority. More unpaid for tax cuts please!
Isn’t it amazing how after 25 years of Republican “tricks”, an effort is made to give all Americans a well-earned “treat”, and the Republicans light that sack full of their plan afire on our front porch.
Wake up America! These “tricks” are used routinely, by both parties. Isn’t it amazing that this time we’re actually learning of it. Seems like transparency is showing us the ugly side of lawmaking which heretofore stayed hidden.
^ You see, the essence of American democracy is that a noisy minority is allowed to get in the way, in order to make sure that the stupidity of any particular individual is not threatened by the good of the community as a whole. Since we don’t want to have a tyranny of the majority, we make sure that we can have a tyranny of the minority, which is really much nicer for everyone except the majority. This method has propelled the US into the forefront of educational standards and medical standards, as is well known to all who never read a newspaper that actually prints words.
Way to address the question. I must commend you on your single-minded obsession with being wrong. It’s almost as impressive as your Don Rickles impersonation.
@Whatroughbeast - So … that means that our economic situation improved across the board (due to the “trickle down economics” of the Republicans) when these tax cuts were implemented. Oh wait, our economy tanked and the majority of Americans continued to wallow in stagnant or declining wages ? Hmm.
And the hits just keep on commin’! Out of left field that is.
You know, I’ve searched my post and nowhere do I find a reference to anything either of you are stating as being my beliefs. Illogical absurdities seem to be in vogue when some people can’t dispute the facts.
WASHINGTON — Demonstrators outside the U.S. Capitol , angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted “nigger” Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis , a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.
The protesters also shouted obscenities at other members of the Congressional Black Caucus , lawmakers said.
“They were shouting, sort of harassing,” Lewis said. “But, it’s okay, I’ve faced this before. It reminded me of the 60s. It was a lot of downright hate and anger and people being downright mean.”
If by “agenda” you mean equal rights including trivial things like the right to work or an education, yeah, I guess it’s an “agenda.”
I read your link to heritage.org and I thought something seemed a little odd… so I went and looked up their take on Marriage issues — VERY interesting stuff, by the way, I think, if I can remember to, I’m going to pull some quotes from there on why equal marriage rights are a must for economic reasons — and then I took another look around and found this quote at the bottom:
“Our mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.”
Interestingly… McCain was against the Bush Tax cuts: “On May 26, 2001, speaking on the Senate floor, McCain said, “I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us, at the expense of middle-class Americans who most need tax relief.”” before he voted for them later saying they were “economically feasible.”
“That’s not to say I don’t think he’d be an improvement over Obama.”
However based on the definitions you’re using, GDP, Stock market, employment (though the employment picture is iffy because according to this… http://www.princeton.edu/~pkrugman/bush-tax-history.png it only looks good if we look at the second one, and ignore the tanking thereafter ) Obama’s stimulus benefited the economy.
We will have to ignore the strain on the deficit that those unpaid-for tax cuts even now continue to take, but “fine,” they stimulated the economy. :)
To be less cryptic, no ,it did not, but why do tax cuts for a relatively small segment of the American population have you upset if you don’t believe that they pay the most taxes?
As an Independent, though not independently wealthy, I’d really like to know.

Are you related?
Jaedabee Premium Member about 14 years ago
I’m asking a fact-related question. Did the tax cuts improve our economic situation or didn’t they? Facts say no. Do you disagree?
