My daughter put money away for school, and had a bank account since a little kid that we started for her, she had no college debt. Her husband was raised far more “conservative” and had a big debt to pay off. It’s that “tax then spend” vs “borrow and spend-then borrow some more” difference in philosophy.
I paid cash for college, got a job at 16, worked in a warehouse while attending, and never borrowed a dime. THAT is the conservative approach. If you want it, earn it.
Howie- just a fact. BTW- my extremely “right wing” brother never worked as my folks paid to put him through college. When he’d been working a couple years, my dad couldn’t work for a while. When he asked my brother for a loan, he said the folks OWED HIM a college degree! He did NOT loan the folks any money. Dad saved all the cancelled checks they’d sent for his college, I don’t think he ever got over my brother’s selfish greed– the perfect neocon before his time.
BTW- I worked and paid my own way through college, GI bill did help with the rent.
He thought Reagan, GHW, and W were Gods, but now he’s dead, so he must have been in slight error. Everyone to the left of Hitler was a communist in his eyes- his whole life, not a chance he’s stand up for a single liberal concept- well, until HE started getting Social Security disability.
Sh!te heads come in all stripes.Cons. lib. it dont matter.
Then there are those who dont even know what they are. Witch is what I think is probably this case.
It should be pointed out that WBR (assuming you’re as old as my dad) was able to get himself through college and take care of his siblings due to the fact that:
Free Trade was not around at the time
The Marginal Tax Rate was at 78%
There was a strong middle class
There were laws heavily regulating businesses
We made thing here.
I’m sure I’m missing a few things. I’ll ask my old man or my professor what else I missed.
