It’s a cheap shot. I’m of the opinion that Sarah Palin represents the worst of the Conservative ‘gimme’ bunch, but look at the facts. Up until she was 6 years old Sarah Palin’s family lived in a small town in Alaska. The closest medical care was in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. I mean, good grief, slam her for the silly things she says, the dumb decisions she makes, but this is WAY over the top.
It was the fact she acted like a junkie in recovery confessing she’d had a benefit from “national health care”- it’s not a bit over the top, just recognizing she’s a hypocrite, AND and idiot.
Actually, Dr. Canuck, back when Palin was growing up Skagway was still a relatively small mining town. Tourism didn’t start there until later. I think the cruise ships started coming in the 1980s. Even as late as the 2000 census, the population that lived there year round was only about 800. The tourists bring it up to about 2000 during tourist season. So, back in the late 60s, she may have had to go elsewhere for some healthcare needs.
Of course, Palin’s still an embarassment, regardless of where she went for medical care.
As I understand it, the health care was for her brother, who had injured his foot. However, another time, she said they went to some city in Alaska (I can’t remember which). No word on which, if either, story is true, but as some wit said, her brother does have two feet.
“Palin’s father said his family probably boarded the train for the Whitehorse hospital only twice — once when a daughter had rheumatic fever, and once when his son, also named Chuck, severely burned his leg and an infection set in.
“We much preferred to use our facilities because my insurance didn’t cover anything in Whitehorse. And even though they have socialized medicine, I still had to pay the bill, being an American citizen,” Heath said.
Heath worked part-time for the White Pass & Yukon Railroad and had a pass allowing him and his family to ride for free.
The train in the 1960s often was the only option for getting to a doctor, Skagway Mayor Tom Cochran said.”

I think Doc mentioned it somewhere else… A story about how Sarah Palin went to Canada for some medical procedure. It was a long time ago, though.

Ah ha! Here’s our answer (From an AP story)

Meh, I really don’t care much about this story. Who really gives a bleeep about what Sarah Palin did in the 60s? What was she then, five?
