While at Ft. Benning after ‘Nam, saw the “special premiere” of “The Green Berets”- saw “Barbarella” downtown- “Barbarella” was closer to reality.
Americans only celebrate violence they aren’t personally impacted by. Sadly today, most Americans head for their “Linus blankets” the instant real life comes even close to them. Even in the military, it seem the “do nothings” who’ve hung back don’t accept or support those who’ve actually “been there-done that”
Movies ARE imagination, and often hilariously misconstrue what actually happens, but often their IS the intent to make people think- like the ‘toon.
americans this americans that - why do we want to generalize this stuff
anyway ribbie’s right about art reflecting (or affirming or affronting or eschewing) real life - we like it we don’t - agree or disagree - it’s still about real life
and before we accuse anyone of celebrating violence, let’s remember that it’s always been the persuader of choice - a fact of life mirrored in cinema
