With the Post Office, it’s a lose-lose situation. Prices go up because there is to much mail or they go up because of not enough revenue when there is to little mail.
If you check the postal service is not a federal activity, congress mandates that they do not make a profit. when postal rates go up they are already in the hole.Good place to start.
Andy- federal collection of oil royalties on the oil companies went down under Bush- so did regulation-in lots of “industries”- and our incomes- so yep- down with government.
btw- I get my meds by mail- so there is some good stuff in between those bank solicitations to take their credit cards- which they pay cheap rates to fill my mailbox with.
I want to know who has the monopoly on mailboxes????
The last postal raise under GW was made “to pay for the mail employees retirement”. That happened because the employees’ contributions towards their retirement was collected, but never deposited into the retirement fund. Someone said, “Look at all of this money the Post Office has. Let’s use it to help pay for the war in Iraq.” They deposited it into the general fund. Then the excuse for raising postage to pay for what was stolen. Higher postage = less use of the post office = less income = deficit.
We still have the most efficient postal system in the world.
I built a category 5 mailbox. Lots of neighbors in our coastal town like it. Some don’t get it. Senor, that slew of inquiries for harley was Colbert-like. You could be a writer for his show.
HQ, Why should we change? Two big reasons. One is that we pay 3 times as much for our health care as anyone else. Two is that it hurts our industry for a corporation to have to pay for insurance for their employees while attempting to compete with the same industry in a nation which has national health care. Three is that our system is not the best in the world as long as everyone is not covered. Hmmm? I can’t count?
Yeah privatize the mail system. Let’s see if UPS or Fedex will go to a house in the middle of no where to deliver mail at $.50 a letter. As a matter of fact there are places that those companies will NOT deliver packages to. That’ll work real well, like our privatized health insurance! Oh wait…

^ HQ suggested: “3 days a week. Tues, Thurs, Sat.” You can wait for your mail, businesses cannot.
