A gov’t at odds with itself leaves windows open for these behaviors. In the late 60s and early 70s, the CIA was discovered to be financing it’s own operations with shadow corporations overseas. Hoover spied on Presidents and legislators alike. If congress was bipartisan instead of tribal, it would be able to form a stronger and more resilient wall against such behaviors, AND have the moral/ethical high ground in doing so. Sadly, their ends justifies means practices simply spread to other branches of our bureaucracy and the hydra of gridlock and bitterness just grows more heads, and ironically, the legislature WANTS some of those heads because they bite on ‘their’ behalf. Whether it’s attacking the president, or attacking conservatives for one of their actions/inactions, one man’s monster is another man’s guard dog.And the American people are the ones who get bit.Respectfully,C.

Those of you who grew up with computer terms might not appreciate the strangeness of seeing ordinary words appropriated toward new meanings. .The first time I read a glossy ad for “Word for Windows” I wondered what the heck that was. I told my father I had to buy a mouse pad, and he was taken aback (bachelor apartment, sanitary napkin, writing tablet?) I myself was somewhat irritated by the terms “menu,” " tool box, " and “file.” All the metaphors were strange and disconcerting, and took getting used to. (Particle physics terms are even worse!).When you learn things in youth, you tend to internalize them and they become set and hardened. I suppose it’s why people even older than I am have such a hard time with computers. I’ve adapted, but I tend to choose Windows Classic desktops, and still prefer pull-down menus with word choices instead of cute, irritating icons. That animated paper clip character in Excel was the worst!.I think eventually people will forget to read because visual choices will cover all their wants; and forget to write due to speech recognition programs; maybe even forget to speak, if telepathic connections come about. Many people are already forgetting to think for themselves, in my opinion. (I read that somewhere on the Internet ; )

I think about Obama’s support for the lying SOB Brennan, and an ugly word comes to mind: impeachment. Not the circus barker ranting of the Palinesque Republicans, but a deadly serious consideration by statesmen. But since there are, maybe, two such people, all that will happen is that the ranting will get louder.

Opednance: well said. Chickens coming home to roost, and hypocritical politicians only concerned if THEIR ox gets gored.

The “transgressions” of the CIA go back to when it was the OSS, which was why there were SUPPOSED TO BE “restraints” placed on them, like no “homeland” actions, which were left up to Hoover and the FBI, and of course J.Edgar never overstepped the bounds! HAR!
