By the same standard we could speculate that, had President Obama not been so hot to check out of Iraq and not look back, we could have negotiated for a continuing troop presence and been a force for stability in the country’s development toward democracy while incidentally stopping a group that President Obama had dismissed as “the JV team” from taking over broad swathes of the country.
