As a former trans-europe hitchhiker, I found this rather amusing. I never ever refused a ride. Hindsight now makes me shudder at the risks I took, not only because of the drivers but the actual cars I accepted rides in.
I only tried hitchhiking once in my youth. I got a ride with a guy who drove 90 MPH in a rainstorm on a two lane highway. He forced an oncoming truck off the road while passing a car. I couldn’t wait to get out of his car.
