Fans?! Who are they? What do they ever contribute to the success of a team? Oh, yeah. THEIR MONEY!! As a season ticket holder for an NHL franchise I’m still highly amused by those “cost certainties” that Bettman promised after the 2004-2005 lockout.

The truest and most concise observation of professional sports I have seen. This also applies to the NCAA and “sports” channels (exp: ESPN) that exploit unpaid high schoolers in All Star games.

The fact that the fans will always be there is why teams will not listen to them. The only thing they understand is the bottom line. Hit them there and they will take notice.

Fans follow a winner. If it’s about loyalty, why are almost all the complaints about not changing a losing team? All of a sudden, everyone wants to be its GM. If the team is winning, applicants for that job soon disappear.

That’s like the typical official response to a business change (any business): “We have no plans in that direction.”

No “plans” yet, but they may be seriously “considering” it.

“We have no plans” means “we are past the planning stage.”
