But when George W. Bush put on that phony ‘Cowboy’ act of his, the righties ate it up.( Yes it was phony, Dubya only bought that ranch after becoming a Presidential candidate and as soon as he was out of the White House, back on the market it went. )
1999, the year that Bush first declared for the PresidencyNot phony? Have you forgotten all those brush-clearing photo ops? The strutting around in the cowboy hat.?And here y’go….http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cenk-uygur/bush-drops-fake-cowboy-sh_b_158186.htmlhttp://www.alternet.org/story/112437/bush_ditches_his_ranch_for_ritzier_digs_in_dallashttp://www.alternet.org/story/112437/bush_ditches_his_ranch_for_ritzier_digs_in_dallasNo, he didn’t sell it, but he DID bail out of it…and it was never a real working ranch in the first place.
Not only did the Democrats “turn their back on Hillary” in 2008, they will do it again if Elizabeth Warren runs. And, if Warren runs, Hillary will probably decide not to run or drop out early, which no one is currently entertaining as a genuine possibility. Hillary was the heir apparent in 2008, but she was a good solid experienced candidate. That’s what people say they want. But, Obama was a rock star. He said what people wanted to hear, he had no record to defend, and that’s the person who people will vote for. Hillary is a very bright lady. She may have stood out in the coming hurricane in 2008. But she’s going to recognize a hurricane if she gets hit with one again, and she may make a half-hearted attempt to run, but she’s going to be in the storm shelter before Lizzie really gets going strong.
The person we elect president has become nothing more than a fashion accessory. Oooh! Let’s try a black one, but not too black. OK, done that. Oooh! Let’s try an ex-president’s wife. Oooh! Let’s try an ex-president’s daughter. Issues? What issues? Oh, those things. Well, somebody will take care of them.
Sounds like a great deal!.In any case, Democrats did not “turn their backs on Hillary”; there was a hard-fought, extremely close primary season. And Elizabeth Warren will not run if Hillary does.
Does anyone read Hans Christian Andersen, anymore? Get a book of his complete tales and read past the best-known stories for some very strange plots. Some of my favorites are “The Girl Who Trod on a Loaf,” “The Old Grave Stone,” and “A Thousand Years From Now.” Those are not really for children.
In a different style, what about E. Nesbit? “Five Children and It”, “The Phoenix and the Carpet”? (Nesbit was a Fabian socialist, though I didn’t know that when I was reading her back in the 1950s).
