Absolutely agree with you as regards federalism. Unfortunately, while I may be pro-Europe-federalist, many Europeans aren’t. But then again my emotional capital in Europe isn’t as great as other Europeans.I identify myself as Portuguese but also African…Sure I am an Eurocentric-African when in South Africa but I look at Europe from an apparently outside angle while living within it. Here I seem to have an Afro-centric view of Europe so I might tend to be more pragmatic. This dual perspective allows me to be more critical…or so I think.
It is my opinion Europeans should take care of their own defence, and are quite capable of doing so IF only they would be more co-operative with each other! I do think the EU is the vehicle that can represent the [self-]interests of European nations in an increasingly multi-polar world. It perplexes me that the best thing to happen to Europe, the EU, can sometimes be so devisive.
