and, too bad kids today can’t walk to school. because, of stranger danger, no sidewalks, crazy drivers texting on their cell phones, drug dealers, kidnappers, etc…

Five miles uphill to school in the morning, five miles uphill to go home at night…. Or at least that’s what I told my daughter. When I was much younger, we walked a mile or two, rode a bus when it was farther, or let mom do the transporting. By the time I got old enough to drive, I didn’t have a car, so the bus was good enough. About twice I got to take a car due to after school needs.

The various “problem people” fixed it so our daughter was almost always on a bus, or in some combination of mom and I providing transportation until she started driving herself. She DID have a car, although she had a little trouble keeping a license. (She’d ride with friends who’s licenses were currently OK….)

She also doesn’t remember ever not having a phone in my car, or her mother’s, for that matter. No idea how she made it through….
