For most filers the Federal tax code isn’t all that complicated. The vast majority (90+%) of the regulations applies to only relatively small and select segments of the American economy (usually agriculture and large corporations.) For the vast majority of wage earners and small businesses, these regulations don’t apply and can be ignored.`Of course, a good many people are incapable of balancing their checking account – and usually don’t see any reason to do so. Therefore, I suppose for them the tax code is indecipherable.

There are usually some good free tax programs you can download that do most of the work for you

Oh, you mean the “Fair” Tax?The guy who makes a million gets to keep $900,00, and the guy who makes $10,000 gets to keep $9,000?Sounds “fair” to me. (Not really.).In any case, a Kilbot doesn’t stand a chance against an IRS auditor.

Vary the personal deduction and tax rate and you’re back on the road we’re on now..As for progressive taxation , I hear it goes back to ancient Greece: Those who benefit more from Athens support Athens more. If Bill Gates and I have our homes broken into, I’m pretty dure he will get a higher level of police service than I. Or use the SEC and FTA more than I..Or another quote: The Law, in its majesty, forbids both the rich and the poor from sleeping under bridges.
