    Time was when the banks paid you decent interest for the privilege of holding (and using) the money you trusted to them. Now more and more want to charge you for their “trouble” holding it. “Free” checking is all but a footnote in the history books, and I can remember getting “loyalty” bonus rates added to CD’s that rolled over that were higher than the average CD rate itself is now.

    I had a First Interstate Bank account years ago (before they were absorbed by Wells Fargo)..I ran the balance down to zero without actually closing the account..They kept sending me notices of account due balance $20…$40..-$60..Then the pink header notices started to appear..blah..blah..Eventually red header notices started to come with the short message.."Give…Money….NOW!They finally gave up after 6 months..smh..

    TCF still has free checking and no charge on savings if you keep it above a certain amount.
