The people of Crimea have had an election. There is no evidence that they made attempts to disenfranchise anyone who didn’t seem likely to vote their way, or to make it as difficult as possible to exercise their right to vote, which is more than many of the states in the US can say. So, we don’t like their choice, tough. It’s their choice. If it turns out to be a mistake, it’s their mistake and their problem. Of course, they will probably ask us to help them solve it, but there’s no reason why we have to comply with that request. They are not children, we are not their parents, and we have problems of our own.

I guess our guns in Viet Nam, Afghanistan, and Iraq were to assure the English speakers with ethnic ties to the U.S. could be sure to vote?

Sorry, I don’t like Putin, but their Black Sea fleet, and over a century of operations in the Crimea gives them more standing in the region, than our buttinski attitude.

Just remember that elections in Iraq and Afghanistan took place under the watchfull eye of heavily armed US military.
