Whilst I am at work, I have a babysitter for my inner child (professionalism and all that). However, if I go to a movie, visit a local carnival, read a collection of ‘Calvin and Hobbes’, et al, the inner babysitter gets the day off and my inner child and I laugh and giggle and scream (on scary carnival rides) like there is no tomorrow whilst the inner child babysitter gets to finish another chapter of ‘War and Peace’. All three of us are happy. (I read ‘WaP’ many years ago: now the inner babysitter can enjoy the angst.)

While I’m all for remaining young at heart, whoopie cushions wouldn’t be my choice for achieving it. Even as a chronological child, they weren’t much to my taste. Amusing once in a while, yes, but a little goes a long way. Mais, chacun à son goût.
