He’s already increased our debt from 10 to 17 Trillion dollars and now it’s more than the National GDP, but that’s not enough. It will easily go over 20 Trillion once all the Obama(non)Care costs kick in.Unless of course, the Republicans retake the Senate and keep the House later this year. At least there’s hope……

Uh? Congress has to pass spending bills and set taxes. Not the president.

On this one I have to agree with Cenright – Obama is spending the money but Congress is approving the spend. And while I don’t like a lot of his idiotic policies – I have to give Obama credit with his move to FINALLY start downsizing the Military. The Military Industrial complex has become a sacred cow with no programs ever going away. Finally a President says what should have been said a long time ago. Enough is Enough. Now if we can just get him to say the same thing about the Entitlement crowd with their hands out.

I say if we are downsizing the military like Obama wants we should down size social welfare to pre-World War 2 levels too. That would solve a lot of our government spending problems.

Its a large country, third highest population in the world, large land mass, considerable infrastructure to maintain and develop, 800+ military bases all over the world to maintain, expensive wars waged. It takes a lot of money and so many live in the fools paradise where you don’t pay the bills. Time to get real and provide the revenue.

@Adrian – We can’t afford to be the policeman for the world anymore. I am not calling any one in the military a waste. I appreciate the work and self sacrifice of our servicemen and women. But we, as a country in debt, can’t afford to support the size of the military we have today. We need to reduce the size of the military AND the scope of their mission.

I dont’ know about you but I can remember a time when this country wasn’t at war (Except for on drugs). I would like us to be there again. And we can get there if we stop trying to control whats going on in every other country in the world.

Yes, Adrian I have. Remember what happened when Gingrich and Clinton pushed welfare reform through in the 90’s? The number on welfare, food stamps, etc., fell dramatically. Unemployment fell too..Those who can will. We can sort out the others….Prisons are filled up because of a combination of causes:.Lax enforcement of immigration laws (including on employers).Gun laws such as any felon with a gun or ammunition getting 5 to 10+ years even if they committed no other crime.Conspiricy laws that allow conviction on nothing but hearsay as two examples..A generous and endless social “safety net” creates dependency and sloth. It can be cut back considerably too.

@Tax Man – Where were you on September 11th 2001? This country had the largest military in the world (By a wide margin) and we were attacked by a bunch of terrorists that flew planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

They didn’t do that because they didn’t like the American way of life. They did that because they were angry about the way the United States inserted itself into their country’s business.

Look – I don’t like the way Fundamentalist Muslims treat women in their culture. That doesn’t give us the right to tell them how to run their country.

Peace through Strength is the Mantra of the Military Industrial complex. It is how they have managed to keep Trillions of tax dollars flowing to their shareholders.

I much prefer that we spend all that money on infrastructure here in this country: High Speed Rail, High Speed Internet to every home, Good roads, Good Schools, Good Hospitals, etc.

I wonder how many crumbling schools could be replaced for the cost of 1 Aircraft Carrier?

I wonder how many fewer kids would fail to learn to read if we replaced 10000 soldiers with 10000 teachers?

Actually pretty funny, but unfunded wars, corporate welfare as in government support of their low paid work force and worker pool, military industrial complex, long term prision sentences for minor drug offenses, etc. We are a sum of our parts unwilling to pay for what we do/ask and then blame it on Obama. He doesn’t approve the budget that is Congress. We have only ourselves to blame.

NeoconMan says: Not to worry; my Republican Party will take back the White House in ‘16 and no one will ever worry about the deficit again. Because it won’t matter, again.-No, if your scenario holds true, it will matter to Harry Reid and the Democrats again. I can just see their outrage now.

Do the cons on the site really not understand why the deficit rose when Obama took office? Just in case they really don’t, it’s because Dumbya ran two wars and medicare part D off the books. You’re welcome.
