Remember people, kids, with their limited life experience, are somehow complete experts on what they’ll need to know in the future. Because they already know how and why they’re going to be rich and famous!
Sue needs to know that rich people who don’t mind their money rapidly BECOME poor people. Many portions of math will not be useful in your lifetime, but until you know (and we can’t) all the paths your life will take, you don’t know which ones.
I’m a former self-taught engineer. And I also agree that our school systems are not doing the best they could do. If I were currently young and raising my kids, I’d probably choose to home-school with the help of online resources.
Rich people get rich and stay rich because they learned math. and all the boring stuff that goes with it like budgeting and percentages, and being able to read mining core readouts and know – there’s gold, diamonds, silver, oil in that sample.

You also need to it to keep YOURSELF from becoming poor.
Though I think there are probably a lot of people now that’d love to see her be poor and get put in her place.
