    Most software nowadays can be set to automatically back up your work every so often. If you’re massively paranoid (like myself) it can back up every five minutes, though you should set it up to only back up things that have changed since the last time. Also, don’t back you work up to your laptops main hard drive! Get a portable drive that plugs into a USB port. They’re pretty cheap at the moment (I just got a 1 terabyte [room for a LOT of stuff!] for $50). They’re compact, and get their power from the USB port. Set your program to back up to the portable drive, and if the laptop dies you can just take the drive to a new computer.
