In this case, a board should have been used and the blanket to wrap around the dog and board to keep him from moving. Being carried in your arms could do more damage, especially if there are broken bones.
This strip breaks my heart. We have cremains here and a backyard full of beloved pets in our former town. I realize it is a comic but it heartbreaking nonetheless.
