When a tyrannical dictator uses WMD in the form of poison gas against a civilian population and when it is reported he has manufactured and stored thousands of tons, it is time for the International community to take a stand, including Canada. .What is strange is that the U.S.A. who have the military capability in the area to deliver a swift, targeted, and punitive strike that will deter future use, is finding support for such action difficult. This is no time for capitulation. It is time to support the President, including other nations.
“America may no longer claim moral authority in the world if it stands idly by while women and children are being slaughtered in Syria.”We still get a pass on ignoring genocides in other places, though right?Ah, well. We’ll always have Kosovo, right Doc?
Reports are that 40% of the deaths are on the Assad side in this CIVIL WAR! We don’t need to go into it, let the folks at den Hague handle it. (Oh, right, the U.S. doesn’t support the international criminal court, because OUR “bad guys” might get caught some day, like well, in 2003?)
Hmm, maybe Obama IS smarter than we think, and just going to Congress to get the attack mode turned down, so they CAN give it to den Hague? Kerry today IS backing letting removal of all WMDs, with verification by the international community be a “way out”.
It would be nice to have someone, somewhere, be rational. Nah, that won’t happen.
Not all of the rebels are Qaeda, and even among the Salafist jihadi, few believe in the wholesale killing of non-Muslims. Christians in Syria are being targeted because they support Assad. If we bomb all of Assad’s heavy artillery & aircraft, the war will still drag on, especially if Russia uses our involvement as an excuse to give more support to Assad.
Thanks for a well reasoned response the other day. Enjoy the good stuff in life!PS- I think Canadian PM Harper backs the war faction, but I’m not so sure Dr. C is on the same page as his leader on this issue.
“…….We need to sternly say ‘NO’. But if you want to send Canadians as fodder I say go for it……”.Is it just me or are Righties hearing and comprehension impaired?.It is not an invasion or a long protracted war as the Bushies would do, its a swift, targeted, and punitive strike designed to deter further use of poison gas..Already there are signs Putin may be the peace-maker to avoid weakening his best buddy al-Assad. (We’ll have to see where that goes.).Not unlike Americans thought Hitler was not their problem until getting a wake-up call from Japan.

Unfortunately, there are a small number like narrowminded and MStevenson58 who basically appear to be insignificant arrogant little p__ks who like to talk big.

He’ll drive off like Homer Simpson did. So what if he wrecks the fenders, wheel assembly, and the street?

I’d be very proud of my fellow citizens if public opinion were to actually stop this from happening.
