And he gets a lot more respect in the middle east than W did, and more than either McCain or Romney would have, because he actually listens to their concerns, helps when he can, and doesn’t like unnecessary wars. But Egypt is a lose-lose proposition. Now that the US is out of the violent-overthrow-of-democracy business, and getting cheapskated out of the international influence market by congress (our support for Egypt is a fraction of Saudi Arabia’s), there’s not much that could have been done by anyone.
