    I remember when the newspapers in general were all about important events, not which plastic “glamour” teen got what tattoo, where.

    It is the same with the ones for the girls. Like the Brownies and the Girl Scouts. Many parents beyond paying for the uniforms really don’t get into it to help the kid(s) out.That is how it was even forty years ago even. I, except for a family with the troop picnic, never saw any family participation with the troops I was in.
