@Jo ClearNot all states, use a jury of 12. In Williams v. Florida, the Supreme Court decided the jury performance didn’t suffer because of the smaller size of Florida’s juries (six.)
The one time I could not get out of jury duty, we had 7 jurors sit through the trial. Then when we went to the back room, juror number 7 was told to leave. She was just there in case one of us had an emergency, then they wouldn’t have to start the whole thing over.
