He has just the face for it. It is the only way to keep up with people who never look up from their “phone” to talk anymore.

If I put down one song I’d have to put down a hundred. Still, Amazing Grace for my religion, Shenandoah for my family background, anything by Merle Haggard and by Bob Dylan for my life. “Away, we’re bound away, across the wide Missouri.”

This is really pretty good, and it has enough truth to be uncomfortable.

The line was, “You just slip out the back, Jack”; the song was “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” although he never mentioned even ten ways. And when Paul Simon appeared on “The Muppet Show,” the opening blackout took place at the backstage door, where the Muppet at the door warned Simon not to touch the rather obvious lever in the shot. Grabbing and pulling the lever, Simon asked, “You mean this lever here?,” at which point the old Muppet at the back door fell through a trap door in the floor. Cut to a head shot of Simon, who quipped, “I love levers. But then, I know 50 ways to love your lever.” And just to make sure everyone got the joke, the word was pronounced LEE-ver instead of LEH-ver.
