It’s kinda unclear, but I’ll tell you what I think. It seems to me that Marm has stolen trash from from the neighbors (or maybe it was just the Winslows trash he messed up). This company sells stuff for you, so they get it all, put it up for sale and Marm follows them because that’s his treasure. Which is why, in th end, he deserves a cut of the earnings.
