How is it that people think that no one will miss a few million dollars? What kind of person pisses that kind of money away, knowing full well how much value that money could provide in a more constructive context? I understand that it’s easier if you’re spending “someone else’s money”, but still…..it would be nice to expect that at least one of the people in charge had a conscience.
There’s a difference between losing money because you are too irresponsible to have had access to it in the first place, and wasting money just because you can. Different levels of hell, but different nonetheless.
And I’m willing to bet this is nothing compared to what we don’t know. Your tax dollars at work.
I still don’t entirely get the hubbub over the conferences and linedancing. Doesn’t anyone work in corporate? This is exactly the sort of thing they make people do for ‘team building’ and ‘morale’. Yes, the presidential suites were kind of out of hand, but all of the other stuff? Standard practice for any big business, and ultimately, of all of the government departments, the IRS is the most businesslike, filled with taxmen and not politicians. It’s a stressful enough job as is, I want my IRS auditors and people to have something to be happy about.
What’s really silly about the flap over the videos is the fact that government agencies picked up on these “team building” exercises from PRIVATE corporations contracted to provide the training, just the “corporate world” has used.
Interesting too that some of the most profitable companies in America, and around the world, are the ones that have gone to “campuses”, and “casual Fridays” becoming day to day S.O.P..
NPS (National Park Service) was chastised a long time ago by having training for interpreters at Disneyworld. The same “righties” critical, grasped tightly onto the Disney policy of “commercializing” public lands, by selling them off, or charging recreation folks huge fees to use PUBLIC land, while letting extractive resources like oil and gas, timber, and grazing, “skate” on paying any fair market value for what they were getting.
