Good one.I hope that this sort of beneficence is not denigrated as “mere socialism”.

Coburn and Inhofe are both an embarrassment in the Senate, and I’d say Oklahoma deserves them, but nobody does.

The power of these storms is increasing, despite the denier attitude of Coburn and Inhofe, but even WITHOUT the increase in severity, folks who’ve never witnessed them, have no comprehension the power of “natural events” like hurricanes or tornadoes. Add in the damage caused by “man made features” blowing apart and becoming shrapnel, and you have serious impacts (literally).

The damage Coburn and Inhofe have done to our government, natural resource management, and economy, nationally, reaches far beyond the borders of Oklahoma.

Good for you and your state. People in my state (the sometimes conservative hated California) not only make individual contributions to such as the Red Cross, we also heavily support federal disaster relief in all its forms, by paying $1.00 in federal taxes for every $0.78 in return federal benefits that we receive. I know that this is somewhat unfair, but we are ALL apart of this great country, and so other states that do not pay so much are even just as welcome to our federal largesse as anyone else. So, you are very welcome indeed. And to you and those in Oklahoma, please do have a Great Day!!

How can you even possibly make such an acrimonious post with even a straight face?It IS an absolutely known fact the the blue states on the coasts are not only the true economic engines of the US, but they are by for the heaviest contributors to the federal treasury. Californians alone send $1.00 in federal taxes, and only get back $0,78 in federal benefits. While for the most part the red states send far fewer dollars to the federal government in taxes and get back far more in benefits. One of the worst of these “taker” red states is Mississippi where they sent $1.00 in federal taxes, and get back some $2.50 in federal benefits. It IS exactly the opposite of your post! And we in such states as California do not even mind this, as we are ALL a part of the US. But what we do not like is the continued hatred on such states as our own!

“Interesting that the party that claims to be pro-life is the one that will not spend money that would actually save lives.”

A number of us have expressed that thought.

    Come again?

I must be missing something … Louisiana is a red state, isn’t it? But that can’t be right – because they didn’t jump up and put things right, they lolled around waiting for the Feds to bail them out – Brownie let them down, but … why didn ’t they just get up and put the mess straight?

Katrina was followed by other hurricanes in red states, (I’m pretty sure Texas is a red state) but they, too, waited around for the Feds.

Are you saying that Louisiana and Texas are blue states?

Why can’t America do the same sort of thing with medicare and education when average life expectancy ranks about the same as Bosnia at 40th in the world and infant mortality ranks about the same as Slovenia at 33rd and PISA scores at 23rd.
