I hope the comic artist and editors realize that every time they use the “H word” they owe the “H” family money. The family patented or copyrighted the maneuver that is why in first aid classes we call this abdominal thrust.

Joe Piglet, it’s fine. Two reasons: it’s being used correctly and the “family” doesn’t get money for the use of the words. You’ll see places using other words because of the rule, “better safe than sorry”. It is service-marked and a first aid class is a place that would be for public “use” therefore they could be subject to trademark fines. This would be deemed “reasonable use”.

My beef or meat ball was the whole petty idea in the first place. When you actually need to use it, Heimlich or abdominal thrust, its saving the life that counts.

T he truth is that maneuver was used during WW2, long before the Heimlich name was a6ttached to it.

Somewhere in the back of my head, I think I heard they had come up with some new and improved maneuver that they’re using these days instead of heimlich…or maybe I’m thinking of something else.
