There has never been, nor there ever will be a successful civilization without slavery.

    Interesting concept. Possibly true. Sad.

150 years ago, there was legal slavery in the USA. After that, indenturing humans became a form of self enslavement, “owing your soul to the company store.” Education, unions, progressive thinking, modernization all contributed to the end of indenturing, but we have passed through the "high point’ of the middle class. Globalization, the value of currency over things currency buys, and a general suppression of the middle class is making ‘slavery’ come back in the USA. Some are immigrants tricked into coming to America where they work in hidden sweat shops or brothels and on the other end of the spectrum, our growing number of laws incarcerating people for non violent crime has created a burgeoning corporate prison culture where underpaid prisoners contribute to the cost of their incarceration and the stock price of investors through the products they produce. And our legislators are making all of this possible. Is that what Americans want?Respectfully,C.

We never ended slavery in this country, we merely exported it.
