The paint known as mummy brown, popular with 19th-century artists, was made from powdered Egyptian mummies! Julia Pastrana, a Victorian sideshow performer known as the Apewoman, was finally buried in her home country of Mexico in 2013, 150 years after her death! Wisdom a wild Laysan albatross of the South Pacific, is 62 years old and had her 36th check in February 2013!

Que finalmente descanses en paz, doña Julia. As for the paint, that’s just wrong to disturb the dead like that! Congrats, Wisdom, too I might add.

So I guess there was never an over supply of “Mummy brown”. As regards the albatross, has anyone seen her birth certificate?

That was my thought also, how did anyone date the birth of that particular albatross! And how do they know she had 35 other young!

The Albatross was “banded,” fitted with that metal ring around the lower leg, just after hatching. Biologists have been observing her and her offspring every season all these years.
