I was guessing Tanzania (Praying Nation), maybe Kenya as both have large mixed religious groups & populations (look thru’ the crowd); but I do not know the context nor recognised the hooded statue/monument holding a book and why it would be labelled hypocrisy.
Oh, really? Tell that to people whose lives have either been healed (physically) or lengthened because someone prayed in their behalf..Prayer is just a way of getting the Powers’ (and I mean the ones behind the religions) attention. Haven’t you heard the adage: “Be careful what you wish for”? It’s because Somebody is Listening….
I reckon incense was simply to disguise the fact no-one bathed very often in those days I imagine that at communal gatherings body odour multiplied by many dozens could be rather powerful. Smelling could lead to smiting.
