And “conservatives” interviewed on the street want lower taxes, by eliminating federal employee salaries and benefits, BUT, don’t reduce defense spending, don’t reduce Social Security, Medicare, education, or any program they might benefit from personally, like well, ANY government program!

Like Rick Perry who couldn’t name “agency three” he’d eliminate, only about 1%, at best, of “conservatives”, including the TEA TIMERS in Congress, have any clue how government works, or where the waste really occurs: Contracting!

King is right. A wide plurality of people (something like 75%) said taxes should be cut and government should cut spending. But, no-one could agree to where to cut the spending. It’s almost laughable, if it wasn’t so sad. First thing that should be cut, however, is the duplicative programs the Simpson-Bowles commission found. That’ll save us 172$bn a year. It’s not much, but it’s a start. Then, eliminate programs that study duck wangs, or fund aid to the Muslim Brotherhood-controlled Egypt, the PPACA, or even oil subsidies. There are programs out there the US has no business paying, and I can’t justify why we are furloughing employees when these programs still exist. I don’t know why we aren’t reforming the biggest driver’s of our debt: Social Security and Medicare. Why is the discussion all about taxing (anyone) more and not about cutting waste and reforming programs to be more sustainable? People seem to think that government is the solution, but if everyone has a job instead of leaning on the government, they don’t need the government’s help.

Tigger, while not the interview King is using, here is an article extrapolating the same thing. People want to cut spending, but they can’t agree where.
