Ralph: Strike three! Crowd: Boo! Give me a break, Ump! Get in the game, blue! Ralph: How come little league parents always give the umpire such a hard time? Umpires do the best they can! If not for the umpire, the kids couldn't have a game! It's really true the people who volunteer are always the most criticized! It's a great idea for the Ump to take off his mask, hand it to the biggest loudmouth, and make that person do the umpiring until he apologizes! Definitely a good idea! Umpire: Had enough? Ralph: I'll never yell at you again!

I always found baseball the easiest to referee and the most pointless one to criticize referees. Not exactly tough to get it right. Too bad other sports are more rule-filled.

Today a Utah soccer referee died after being in a coma from a punch in the head by a player that didn’t like the yellow card he was given. What is wrong with not just sports, but the entire world. I stopped watching or having anything to do with team/competitive sports a while back because of the horrific lack of sportsmanship. What we are teaching our children should make us all ashamed!!

From my experience, the parents – mostly fathers – are not only tough on the umpire/referee, but on their kids. Took a father/son friendly soccer match to shut some of the critical (read abusive) fathers up back when my kids played soccer.
