What’s wrong with insurance? Registration? Why are gun owners fighting the opportunity to be responsible?

all those things labelled on the gun barrels are ALSO aimed at car owners, ‘cause, y’know, cars don’t kill people, people kill people…or some such… and even WITH ALL those taxes, registrations, and so on, no one’s come to take away my car.

“Instead they petitioned for the end of the assault weapon ban…Gun ownership is a luxury as it is..”Wait, what? Ownership of a firearm is not a “luxury.” It’s a right. The 2nd Amendment says so, and the SCOTUS has affirmed this.Let’s take your oriental self defense against a bullet traveling at a few hundred feet per second. Let me know how that works out for you. Because based on my 14 years in martial arts, plus the combat training I received in the service of our country, I will never be able to dodge, deflect, or stop a bullet with my soft, squishy flesh no matter how much I train. The police arrive after the crimes are committed; they are not there to stop crimes from happening. Are you suggesting that the government round up all the firearms in this country like Australia did? If that’s true, then you might want to read this. Tell me how this “luxury” is making us less safe, and how the absence of this “luxury” will make us more safe. Look at Chicago, LA, and NY. They have the strictest gun-control laws in the nation, and yet they still have a murder-by-flying-lead problem. Chicago breached 400 last year, NY 500 , LA: nearly 300. We see a drop in DC murders to below 100 for 2012 after Heller. Try again.

Citing CITIES that can’t control gun violence within their borders with LOCAL restrictions, is the EXACT REASON FEDERAL ACTION is needed!! When UNIFORM laws regulate who, and what, is regulated, crossing jurisdictions won’t be the easy way to violence in place today.

I support making the requirements for my concealed carry permit, background check, training, and mental status review, mandatory under federal law for the purchase, OR possession, of ANY centerfire firearm. (Even though rimfire .22’s can do damage, they’re rarely used in violent aggression. They HAVE been used in self-defense, effectively!)

I also strongly support a system like New Zealand’s, where gun OWNERS are registered, and responsible for their weapons. If any “government” wants to confiscate weapons, they can just get the NRA’s records and save time and money over establishing their own system, which is currently prohibited, even under the “Brady Bill”, as records by the government can only be kept for 24 hours.

Typical crap from benson, and the mindless yays from morons. You can’t drive a car without a license, and you can’t own one without tags title and insurance. Cars cause death by accident. Guns cause death by design! I can’t buy Sudafed without showing ID but I should be able to buy a gun on a whim? Get over yourselves. The legal RESPONSIBLE gun owners have nothing to fear!

“Congress, pushed by the NRA, in the 1990s… Congress, pushed by the NRA, has for the last 10 years…Congress has refused to appoint an acting Director for the ATF for 6 years.”

Last I heard Congress was elected by popular vote. I don’t by any means agree with much of the NRA’s platform, and they definitely have done a great job lobbying congress, like so many other “special interests” that buy off our legislators. it just seems odd to me that this issue of the CDC and the ATF would suddenly become such an object of focus when it has been politically invisible for roughly 17 years. Write, call, email your legislators if you want to voice your objections.

You made an overly broad statement, "The NRA successfully lobbied to not only deny funding for, but to outright prohibit the appropriate agencies from collecting or compiling data ans statistics regarding firearm related injuries, crimes, deaths..Yet I provided a link to a paper written by the Congressional Research Service, which used statistical information related to gun violence, that you could not refute. It would appear you are just simple stupid and are the one ignoring the the truth. Gun related statistical information is available, has been and will continue to be. Your inference that the NRA has prohibited it is wrong, and the facts support that.Who’s having a problem with facts now, hmmm?

You truly are, as the Soviets used to say, a useful idiot.

I have been a libertarian for years, before it was fashionable. It’s fairly obvious you did not read the report provided, it provided the sources for the research performed. Just because you choose to ignore it does not make it go away.Still laughing at you though, you are amusing . . .

And to further reply to your intense and obvious stupidity, the Congressional Research Service is a Government Organization under the Library of Congress. From their web site at http://www.loc.gov/crsinfo/"The Congressional Research Service (CRS) works exclusively for the United States Congress, providing policy and legal analysis to committees and Members of both the House and Senate, regardless of party affiliation. As a legislative branch agency within the Library of Congress, CRS has been a valued and respected resource on Capitol Hill for nearly a century.CRS is well-known for analysis that is authoritative, confidential, objective and nonpartisan. Its highest priority is to ensure that Congress has 24/7 access to the nation’s best thinking.Jeez that was so easy, you just can’t handle the truth.

Pathetic comment as usual from you, right wing idiot that you are. Chicago has tough gun laws but the rest of Illinois doesn’t. The solution is a NATIONAL set of gun laws, imbecile.
