    unfortunately, lincoln’s bday wasn’t observed in the south for a long time. that fourth of july wasn’t celebrated in town until 1941. and, some people to this day, still hate general sherman.

    I used a similar gag in an unsold strip in the 80’s. Parts of the strip evolved into Patty-Cake.

    First American… maybe- but I have a feeling that kind of stuff goes back even further. Commercialism and superficiality aren’t all that new. The Seven Wonders of the World were first named so by ancient Greeks trying to encourage the tourist industry. They were a bucket list of places to visit- and spend some dough while visiting.

    I actually read that Washington would be the richest president due to the amount of land he owned. He owned a LOT.
