I’m self-employed and therefore don’t get paid when I don’t work. However, I do make it a point to take at least one week off every year – and my work isn’t the kind I can take with me, so I’m forced to relax!
Everyone should take a vacation and truly relax! Though, I realize that some feel like if they don’t keep up, then they will be replaced, which is a shame. Fortunately I’ve never had a job like that, but others do.

We did well on the move back to the US, thanks for asking! It was a very short summer last year, but it was easy to move back into our house and settle in. The girls made lots of new friends and did new activities, so it didn’t take long for them to be happy. I’m doing well, but lost a couple of friends due to ugliness but I prefer to move on and not get dragged down, so that’s fine. How are you doing? Please come back more often and comment! I will admit that if I am on vacation for more than 3 days I will check emails to make sure there is nothing urgent that I can handle from wherever I am – or at least give advice as to how to handle the problem. Kind of necessary since I am 50% owner of the company as well as a software developer. But actually working while on vacation – no way! That is why I am on vacation. If we have clients in the area we are visiting I will occasionally visit them while my wife and daughters (if they are with us) shop since visiting clients is much more vacation like than shopping.

Maybe I’m alone in thinking this, but isn’t the whole point of a vacation to get away from it all, including work?
