Never tell people what you’re going to do. It will dull your enthusiasm, make you feel pressured from all the expectations and then you won’t want to even try because you know it won’t live up to what everyone says.

But then your chances of actually following through on your commitment plummet to near zero. The whole idea of making your commitment public is to hold you accountable for actually finishing what you’ve started, especially if you’re like Cathy and not self-motivated enough to hold yourself accountable.

I’ve always been a self-motivator, and think it’s annoying when people put pressure on me with the intention of trying to “push” me. I would hate those pseudo boot camps with the instructor yelling in my face. But everyone is different, and I know it works for some.My husband did the public announcement one time, and it sorta backfired on him. He announced he was going to start a running regimen with the intent of running a 5K at the end. He pulled his hamstring after a couple of weeks and had to give it up (probably because he went from doing no exercise to running every other day). I’m sure he got tired of answering questions about how his running program was going.Good morning Cathy clan! Making plans to go visit my mom. It’s so confusing bc my sister only tells me how bad my mom is, while my husband says she’s doing okay (for someone who just had a stroke). So frustrating and I wish I could stop crying at the drop of a hat. Poor Jr has been to the school counselor twice because she’s upset too.

It’s hard to keep your exercise regimen completely private in this world of social media. I do Karate, and my grandmaster posts pictures online of me and all the other students doing Karate, so everyone knows. I don’t mind if someone reminds me or encourages me to go to Karate. If I can’t go, I can’t go. I don’t stress out about it if I miss class.
