A revolver at close quarters, and a bolt action long rifle still can “reach out and touch someone”. Massive magazines and high rates of fire are for suppression of an enemy, not school kids in a classroom. Restricting access to military weapons intended for combat, will not “sheer any sheep”.
There is an old saying that “You can shear a sheep many times, but you can only lead him to slaughter once.”I think means that you can only use an excuse once. Not sure how that applies to gun control.
No one died in THAT incident, but how about the dozens of others in China over the last two years involving knives or axes where children were killed beginning with the Nanping school massacre?
I may be a negativist, but I don’t think much is going to come from congress. Whatever law or edict does come out will be so weak that it will be useless. Thanks to the NRA!
Kevin; “Radish” beat me to it with the CDC figures. YEs, guns are about to overtake motor vehicles as instruments of death, but guns are DESIGNED to kill, more safety features every year make motor vehicles even SAFER. Now idiot drivers, drunk or sober, remain a problem, because most states only require folks to AIM a car to get a license, not actually be able to safely drive it, on various roads, in varied weather conditions. Hmmm, but guns work just as well in the snow, and don’t skid
btw, mental health statistics at CDC also reveal that at some point, one in 17 Americans will have some form of mental illness, be it depression, OCD, PTSD, or such things as bipolar disorder, or other “issues” requiring hospitalization instead of just “out patient” care.
A lot of steps have been taken to reduce deaths in automobile accidents — seat belt laws, for instance. That’s because people did complain. We also try to keep people who are drunk away from driving — but we don’t stop them from walking. I guess that’s because they are more dangerous in cars. We don’t blame the car, but we understand the role of the car in the accident. Likewise, we don’t blame the gun, but we can try to understand the role of the gun in the crime or the accident.
