Ted Rall for December 10, 2012
Transcript:
Demcrats and Republicans both want to reduce cost-of-living increases for social security recipients. They'd switch to "chained consumer price index." that assumes consumers switch to lower-cost alternatives as prices rise. Like, burgers instead of steak. Or: Man 1: $8 for beer?! Then gimme a cool, fresh glass of water and let my parents starve. Man 2: Harvard is $55,000 a year, but joining the army pays, wait- will this cause deflation? Man 3: Average house: $190,000 average piece of cardboard: free best of all: no taxes!

Put those who want a “chained” index in a chain gang and let THEM suffer.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who would gladly trash their government careers to have a stab at looting social security.

Maybe Ted should live in a cardboard box for a year. He’ll change his toon!

They make it sound like a gift from the goverment. I would liked to see how far state farm or other insurance company would get if they only paid 1000 dollars on a million dollar policy. Get the free loader off the roles and no need to worry

Not quite right jrmem. The contribution that were made to social security were used to buy US bonds. A big chunk of the fund consists of IOU (the country owes money that was borrowed from the social security fund). This is the same as you BUYING a million dollars worth of US bonds. The country owes YOU one million dollars.

So, if they have paid into the SS “Trust Fund” and made their tax payments for Medicare, they should get all of the monies they paid back? You advocate for a means test, great! I will stop contributing to the SS “Trust Fund” and to Medicare, refund all of my “contributions” over the last 45 years. I will place that in an appropriate investment fund that will guarantee me a better rate of return then the government does. You are essentially advocating for stealing from one group to give money to another, oh wait, you’re a liberal, that’s how you play your game.Never mind.

Umm, Ted Rall has always been a hard left progressive. His rants against the Democrats have always been based on the fact that he is to the left of them, though many of the Conservatives here are all too happy to lap up his piss…

Let’s start by raising the cap on how much SS income is taxed. It’s easy to tell a cartoonist he needs to work till he’s 70, not so much so for someone who works at the Amazon.com warehouse.
