    The only other person I know who uses “braces” is J.R.R. Tolkien. I had to look it up when I read The Hobbit back in 1965.

    I can remember buying pants that had buttons sewn on the inside of the waistband, specifically for the use of “braces”.

    I’ve heard that braces are buttoned to the gentleman’s trousers, while suspenders are attached by clips.
