Al Jaffee had the best visual sound-effects for his cartoons: “SPLORTCH!” when someone stepped in something. Ah, classic MAD magazine: Dave Berg and Mort Drucker were great, but I always like the marginal comics by Sergio Arrones (sp?). I would flip through the magazine looking for those first before finally settling down to read the rest of the writings by “The Usual Gang of Idiots”. Carefree childhood. I miss it.

I had a sociology professor who had a complete collection of Mad; claimed it was essential to his work.

I find it funny that everyone assumes everyone else in the world has read Mad Magazine. smh

It is easy to distinguish the commentaries posted by people under age 50. Anyone with appreciation of humor knows Mad Magazine, Monty Python, and the late lamented Mongo, who died today.
