Let me just add to all that hotair with some venting of my own…
Africa, Artic, Antartica, all begin with an A. Must be the same continent. (oh! And an Austrian cartoonist (in a German newspaper))
av8tor boasted:
The citizens of the USA have not looked to anyone else but themselves for their own success
I love it when people associate themselves with the more successful of their “tribe”. “Their success is our success”.
Vain pride. @@
The Western countries, but especially the US, have certainly attracted the best of the best all other countries have to offer, not only brawn but a brain drain as well throughout the ages; with the US still attracting citizens of Western countries. A good many of these inventive folk are naturalised citizens of the USA and are or were citizens of other countries, too. Their ingenuity is a global resource. The US has been very good at giving their ingenuity a platform and expression (largely money). But it has been at the cost and detriment of the country of origin.
They’re being punished out of envy and jealousy.
Yes, envious of the success of the West [at the cost of the developing world’s resources and development]. Who holds the short end of the stick of success?
Why has it become a crime to be hardworking and inventive?
It isn’t. It is however, criminal to squander and pollute the resources of the world to benefit’s one’s society only. One wonders who was or is being punished for the “successful” Western world.
The rising developing world will worry about us as much as we have worried about them as we industrialised.
We’re frigging hypocrites. click here - >Try this to figure out how many “earths” are required to continue with our rate of consumption compared to say, an Indian or a Chinese or even a European.
av8tor: You will note I don’t single out the US (too much).
European nations are as guilty of squandering and plundering the world’s resources as the US.
Now that it is China’s turn, we complain.
Then we cry “ But we are more democratic”. Yeah, right.
I took the carbon footprint quiz for which you provided a link. Frankly, I’m shocked at myself…. in a bad way. I was well below the average consumption of my country, even so it would take almost 4 earths to sustain my lifestyle.
Thank you for this eye-opening exercise. The website offers steps to take for reducing how much life I am, quite literally, sucking out of the planet with my current lifestyle.
