@Bubbletape – The problem with those renewable jobs, to which you referred, is that they are opaque. Mr. Obama foolishly squandered our tax dollars on Green Companies that sucked up the money and then declared bankruptcy without producing jobs or products. The Pipeline is out in the open and you can see whether or not the money is being spent appropriately.
At a 30,000 foot level you are absolutley correct – Whether the stimulus money goes for pipelines or windmills – Stimulus money improves the economy. But I much prefer seeing the money go for “real” infrastructure projects where we can all see immediate benefits and the results of the money being spent. Plus, big projects like the oil pipelines are labor intensive meaning much of the money goes to working-class people rather than to a corporation that creates a solar-panel making machine.
That energy of the future you talk about is great if you want to sit in your house or apartment. Not so great if you need to drive to your place of work. You won’t be running your car on a solar panel any time soon.
