I think the only coupon I have ever used (mainly because they don’t issue coupons for most of what I buy) is Canadian Tire money. Canadian Tire started giving out paper money (think monopoly money with the company logo and in cents, not dollars) when Ontario first started retail sales tax of 2%. Essentially you got 2% of your purchase back in the CT money and could spend this money at any Canadian Tire store for any product sold there. Still using the CT money but now it is digital on my credit card instead of paper. And yes, I have been stuck behind a person in a grocery store searching through her purse looking for the 10 cents off coupon. Annoying that.
