I have faint memories of a picture-book titled You Will Go to the Moon. (That was well before Apollo 7.) On the last page was a view of the sky from the Moon, with a red dot and text about someday maybe going to Mars.
I took some kind of assessment test which included the question “What is Mars?” I confidently answered, “A red dot.” Though the examiner sympathized, that was not one of the accepted answers.
(Hm, I must have been younger than Calvin. Dad took me to the Chicago planetarium to see a show about Mars, and afterward we had a Mars Bar. I was five when we moved away from Chicago.)
