BIG NATE: BLIND DATE Part 4
As the day progressed, Francis and Teddy felt a little uneasy about having Dee Dee handling Nate’s date. They were afraid she would accidentally tell someone, and that would kill any chance Nate would have with a date. When the lunch bell rang and as they were heading towards their lockers, Francis was busy racking his brain for some excuse to tell Nate. “I got it!” he exclaimed, “We will tell Nate that we’ve got a few candidates and that we are in the process of asking them if they would want to go on a blind date!”
Later, at the cafeteria, Nate at down beside his friends, like he normally did. “So guys, how is it going? You get me a date yet?” Francis and Teddy looked at each, then looked back at Nate. “Yeah, we have a list of potential candidates,” Francis said. Teddy then picked up with, “We are in the process of asking the girls if they are willing to go on a blind date with you.”
“Any takers?” Nate asked. “Eh…” Teddy and Francis said in unison, “not yet. Still asking around.” Suddenly, like a safe suddenly dropping the ceiling in a old Looney Tunes cartoon, Dee Dee was suddenly there. “Guys! I got someone! And I’ve handled where and when Nate will meet her!” After the three boys got over their shock, Nate turned to them, and he didn’t look pleased. “YOU GUYS LET DEE DEE IN ON THIS!?!?!” he shouted.
“It wasn’t our fault!” Francis said defensively. “Yeah, it wasn’t OUR fault,” Teddy said, “it was Francis’ fault!” “WHAT,” Francis turned an angry glare on Teddy, “don’t you dare put the blame squarely on me!” Just when things were about to get ugly, Dee Dee broke them up. “Boys! It isn’t anyone’s fault! Besides, I would have found out eventually.” Nate, Francis, and Teddy did believe that was true. “Alright,” Nate said as he turned to Dee Dee, “where and when do I meet her?” Dee Dee handed him a piece of paper. “Oh no,” Nate said with a look of embarrassment on his face. “What?” Dee Dee asked. “I can’t go here,” Nate said in panic.
