Bill: Hey coach... Delores: Bill? What're you doing? Shouldn't you be in class? Bill: I have internal suspension. Delores: Internal suspension? What the heck is that? Bill: It's sorta like being arrested in jail... It has all the punishment of being caught, without the joy of being sent home.
We call it In School Suspension or ISS. The students have to sit in a special classroom, are not allowed to talk or move around and have to complete their regular schoolwork. There is a teacher in the room to help with any problems but it is not a fun place for the students. They also don’t get what so many of them really want which is to be sent home for misbehaving. Sending them home is rewarding them for bad behavior.
